LIGHTWELL GARDEN

This lightwell lighting project in Balham, South West London presented an exciting challenge for the DLX Lighting team, with several intricate architectural and technical elements to consider. Close collaboration with the main contractor ensured a seamless installation and a design that balanced form and function.

Our goal was to enhance the natural character of the lightwell and its architectural detailing while providing functional illumination as daylight faded.

A range of landscape and architectural lighting techniques were employed. Solid copper recessed eyelids and step markers complemented the stone-clad walls and Corten planters, creating a timeless aesthetic that will age beautifully. The water feature was softly lit to enhance the tranquillity of running water, while multi-stem trees were up-lit to add depth and dimension across the varied levels.

At high level, narrow-beam recessed uplights produced a dramatic visual effect from all areas of the property, drawing the eye and creating a sense of depth and space within the lightwell.
